We’re Changing Costumes. Be Right Back!
About us
Founded in 1966, Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe of Canada is the longest-running Filipino dance company in Canada, and a vibrant home for culture, community, and creativity.
Two former members of the Philippines’ renowned Bayanihan Dance Company—Dr. Jose Teodoro (fondly known as “Ted”) and Eleanor Calbes—had recently immigrated to Canada and began forming a small dance group within Toronto’s growing Filipino community. Around the same time, word spread that Onofre “George” Aguinaldo was also in the city. They reached out and everything changed.
Recognizing his extraordinary talent as a teacher and visionary, Ted and Eleanor entrusted George with the creative direction of the group. Following the success of their first major performance in April 1966, they passed leadership fully into his hands. In those early days, Fiesta Filipina was built on commitment, heart, and community—exemplified when Estrellita “Estring” Aguinaldo stepped in to perform when a dancer did not show. With George’s vision guiding the way, the troupe quickly became recognized as a premier Philippine folklore group.
For six decades, and made up entirely of volunteers, Fiesta Filipina has proudly promoted, preserved, and brought to life Philippine arts and culture through music, song, and dance. From performances at the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games to international tours across Europe, the Americas, and the Philippines, the troupe continues to connect communities and celebrate heritage on a global stage.
In 2004, Estrellita “Estring” Aguinaldo accepted the Banaag Award on behalf of the organization, recognizing Fiesta Filipina’s impact in showcasing Filipino heritage worldwide and strengthening connections across the global Filipino community.
At its heart, Fiesta Filipina is a family. We are thankful to Estring and George’s daughters—Marie Stella Odette, Rosalee Estrella, and Lynda Sue—for their years of involvement and leadership. We are proud to see George’s legacy carried forward through their grandchildren: Crista Aguinaldo, Cassandra McMillan, and Roman Unza.
As we look ahead, Fiesta Filipina remains committed to honouring its roots while embracing the future—continuing to share, celebrate, and evolve Filipino culture for generations to come.

Rooted in identity and unified in pride, the Philippines Edition T-Shirt is a bold expression of heritage reimagined through modern design. Featuring a structured layout inspired by the Philippine flag, this piece brings together symbolic elements—the sun, stars, and islands—alongside vertical script that reads “Pilipinas”, the Filipino name for the Philippines.
Rendered in a stylized, calligraphic form inspired by Baybayin, an ancient Filipino writing system, the script honors the depth and history of our language and identity. Each panel tells a story: of where we come from, the languages we carry, and the shared pride that connects us across generations.
Designed by Sydney Paule with intention and worn with meaning, this shirt is a tribute to the Filipino spirit—resilient, vibrant, and proudly our own.
